Does your life make your heart sing?
Many people only know that feeling for tiny moments. The majority of their time is spent doing things that they have been taught they “should” do … for their profession, for their volunteer time, for their family connections.
The Native Elders teach that when you do what makes your heart sing, you are following the bent of your nature — being precisely as the Creator has created you to be.
Discovering the bent of your nature can be easy … when you let go of the “shoulds” that drain your energy, that steal your time, that close off your heart from the song of your soul.
Dominant culture values conformity, and respect for outside expectations.
Native culture values the cultivation of a life that allows the heart to sing and the soul to shine.
Often, the process of letting go of those outside expectations requires great courage, performed in quiet contemplation … a seeking of light rather than commanding a beacon. Bravery, the Ancient Ones said, is one of the greatest virtues.
Bravery … strength of mind … shapes your thoughts, expands your heart, speaks to your soul.
Consider this week’s quote:
Take courage … listen to your heart … be guided by your soul’s connection to the divine. You have great gifts. Now is the perfect time to bring them to light.
One of the How to Live On Purpose “Self-Mastery and Personal Transformation” members, only a few weeks away from the publication of her first book, said recently that writing the first installment of her life with her husband was like receiving a river of memories. They washed over her, around her, through her.
She said she had never considered herself a writer. But she felt compelled to chronicle her life with her husband. She opened her mind and heart … and looked within. Soon, others will be touched by what she found there.
If you would like to explore … within yourself … more deeply, you may be drawn to explore more of theHow to Live On Purpose resources.
What is within you?
Follow the bent of your nature.
