Do you have a low tolerance for stress and stressful situations? Maybe you feel inattentive, physically tired or have a lack of initiative and motivation. Did you know that all of these can be symptoms of feeling emotionally exhausted?
Emotional exhaustion occurs when you have exceeded your capacity for stress. And it can affect you without you even realizing it.
As you can see from the symptoms above, being emotionally exhausted shows up both physically and psychologically.
Let’s face it, when you’re feeling emotionally exhausted you have very little tolerance for … well, just about anything.
It can be tough to be attentive because you just don’t seem to care. You find it hard to be fully present! You lack motivation because you feel too physically tired to do anything. Of course, you become physically tired because the emotional stress is too much to handle. You just want to crawl into bed and sleep to get away from it all…
How Can You Feel Better When You Are Emotionally Exhausted?
It’s important to try and notice the symptoms as quickly as possible. Emotional exhaustion is something that can be avoided if you catch it soon enough.
Using positive coping skills may help you to get out in front of the stress. Examples of what may work for you are:
- relaxation
- saying no when you need to
- meditation
- staying in the moment
- taking breaks when you need it
- taking things one step at a time, and
- asking for help
Emotional exhaustion comes from feeling stuck, and unexcited. Recovering from emotional exhaustion is all about changing what you’re focused on. Your mind and body are trying to tell you something — trying to help you, trying to give you hints. You need to listen to them.
Be silent for a bit and listen to what your body is saying.
How to Be Silent and Listen
The first thing you need is to acknowledge and accept that things aren’t right with you right now. Notice that and then you’ll be able to make the change.
Slow your pace, be patient, and don’t hurry. Find a nice comfortable place, just sit and be quiet. Make sure to slow your breathing and just relax.
What if you could recover from emotional exhaustion … right now? You can! Here’s how!
