Overcoming Stress: Are You Having a Breakdown or a Breakthrough?

You’ve been there before. It happens to all of us. You can feel yourself getting so close to a goal that you’ve been trying to achieve for the longest time and you are handed a setback, typically  it’s a major one … one that shakes you deep down to your core.

Maybe it’s something that makes you wonder if your goal is even worth pursuing anymore.

Let us share Brianna’s story. It went something like this…

Brianna’s goal was to run her own business. She had dreams of getting to the point where she had her hands in a few different businesses. But that starts with getting one up and running.

About half a year ago Brianna was able to start her first business. After the devastating blow of  having recently been let go from her previous job, the timing was right.

As Brianna was searching around for her first client one happened to fall into her lap. She felt excited! Brianna’s client ended up being a fantastic one with a bunch of different projects to keep her busy.

She was off and running, until …

After four months of working with her first client, everything was going great. Her client got to the point where she had enough work to keep Brianna busy full-time. On top of that, there were hardly any hiccups. It was smooth sailing, and she felt great!

One day Brianna’s client went over some work that she submitted, as was normal for them on a weekly basis. For the first time in the four months of working together, Brianna’s client was not satisfied and criticized her work.

The You-Know-What Hit the Fan

Overcoming StressThis had the potential to be Brianna’s big setback — because she took everything personally. She was feeling massive stress.

Up to this point in her life whenever someone was critical, Brianna crawled into a hole. She didn’t take criticism well. The stress of not pleasing her client was almost overwhelming to Brianna.

Of course, she imagined the worst. She’d probably lose her client, her livelihood, her relationship, her family … everything!

Brianna got stuck and just wanted to run away and hide. She didn’t even want to do anything with her business anymore. How could she? Being told that something you do isn’t good enough can be a hard thing to bear.

A Sudden Realization

This wasn’t the first time she’d felt like a failure. There were many times in her life that she’d felt that she was just ‘not good enough.”

Brianna realized that she would need to break this pattern of her life if she wanted her business to succeed. After a few days of struggling she finally stood up and said to herself, “You know what, I refuse to let this setback ruin me.”

A lot of times the biggest critic in our lives is ourselves. Brianna’s client didn’t want to stop working with her. In fact, he didn’t even realize what he said had been taken this harshly.Harness the Power of Your Emotions -- WATER ... from HowToLiveOnPurpose.com

For the First Time in her Life

Brianna got to a crossroads and for the first time in her life she was able to keep going. She had arrived at a point where she recognized an emotional pattern, and was ready to choose a new outcome.

She overcame the breakdown and made it to the breakthrough. After years of letting stuff bother her to the point that she wanted to call it quits, she realized that she was not willing to give up on herself. She decided to grow.

Scared … or Sacred?

Let’s face it, it takes a lot of courage to move outside your comfort zone. Being willing to face your issues — the deep emotional shackles that have kept you stuck and settling for so much less than you KNOW you truly deserve … and are capable of … sets you free. It is a profound and sacred moment.

So often, a breakdown precedes a breakthrough. But it doesn’t have to be as hard — or scary — as you think! If you’re ready for some emotional freedom, download the “3 ‘Deadly’ Mistakes That Cause Stress, Overwhelm and Burnout.”

3 Tips to Help You Regain Your Focus

You have family issues, a busying work schedule, and week after week of kids sports practices and games. All of these things can lead to a mind that won’t stop racing.

Regain Your FocusThis can lead to stress. When you have an overwhelming amount of tasks that need accomplishing the human response is typically to procrastinate everything. But, as you know procrastinating is not an effective strategy. All that does is delay, and build, the stress.

Your mind isn’t made to focus on multiple tasks at one time. That’s why when you have a cluttered desk, at work or at home, it seems like your whole life can be thrown out of whack.

Much like that cluttered desk that needs reorganizing, you need to clear your mind of mental clutter to refresh and regain clarity — and get back to firing on all cylinders.

Here are 3 things that you can do to regain your focus and bring some joy back into your life.

Remove Negativity From Your Life

A good place to start when trying to refocus is to start removing negativity from your life.

Your work reflects your state of mind, so take some time to think about some negatives that you can eliminate or minimize from your life so you can get in a positive state of mind.

Here are a few tips for you to start minimizing negativity in your life:

  • Stop doing things you don’t want to do
  • Say no more often
  • Take care of your bills ONE time during the week
  • Stop complaining
  • Forget what other people are saying — and don’t participate in talking about others behind their backs

Think About It

When your to-do list keeps on growing, many people may find it counter-intuitive to take some time before you start and reflect on what really needs to be done.

If you’re like most people you think that charging ahead on your tasks will help you complete them quicker. That isn’t always the case. In our experience attempting to do it this way makes a bigger mess.

Start by reviewing your tasks and figuring out how you’re going to spend your time. How much time you have to devote to different tasks, plan out how to move forward, and what ways you work best.

Consider why you’ve been putting things off, what’s been stressing you out, even what time of the day you work the best. Write these reflections down before you start so you can plan out how you’ll prioritize your list.Harness the Power of Your Emotions -- WATER ... from HowToLiveOnPurpose.com

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

Be willing to let someone help you. You don’t get what you don’t ask for.

If you feel like you’re up to your eyeballs in things to do, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Reaching out to others doesn’t make you weak. Everyone needs some help from time to time. So find someone that you love and ask for a little help. It will help you accomplish your tasks and grow your relationship with whoever it is you asked.

What tips have you learned over the years that help you out when you lost your focus?

If you need some help regaining your focus download our book “3 Deadly Mistakes” to help you manage your stress, overwhelm and burnout.

How to Say No… and Why You Need to

It is hard to say no.

When you do you can feel selfish or guilty. When you say no you can feel as though you’re letting people down. A lot of times it can be easier to just say “yes” than deal with the disappointment and angst that you feel you may cause the other person.

Why you need to say noSure there are different ways to justify it:

  • “It’s just one time”
  • “It won’t take up too much time”
  • “It’s for a good cause”

You may even think that it isn’t that big of a deal. But every time that you say “yes” when you want to say “no” you’re giving up a little piece of you. You’re ignoring what you feel in your heart and in your gut.

Now that we have established why it can be hard to say no, we need to figure out how to know when it is the right time to say no.

Trust Your Gut

After you say yes, notice how you feel. Naturally you’ll want to say yes — it feels good to be there for people when they need you. But when you say yes and shortly after you feel resentful or irritated, then you should have said no. When you feel that right away then you know that you didn’t say yes out of generosity but out of obligation … because you felt like you had to.

Feeling anxiety right after saying yes is a red flag that you should have said no. Pay attention to when you feel this way so you can be prepared the next time a choice must be made.

Avoid the Quick “Yes”

Once you feel that someone is going to ask you something that you may not be able to do start asking yourself some questions:

  • Do I have time to do this?
  • Are they trying to take advantage of my generosity?
  • Is this in my (and everyone else’s) highest good?

Take a few deep breaths and get past the initial anxiety. If you aren’t sure how you feel about it, let the person know that you need to think about it and you will get back to them shortly.

Start With the “No” Piece of it

When you start with the no piece of it, then you’ve gotten the hard part out of the way. Make sure that you’re honest with the other person and don’t make up excuses.

Once you say no, try and keep your enthusiasm up. “I really wish I could make your party this weekend, how about a rain check?”

One of the best strategies for this we learned from best-selling author Steven Covey in his book “Seven Habits of Highly Successful People.” Practice saying this so when it’s appropriate, you’ll be able to respond naturally: “I would love to, but I already have a previous commitment.”

Covey says you don’t need to defend or justify what that commitment is. It may mean you’ve made a commitment to take care of yourself, or spend time with your family. Only you need to know what that is, so you don’t need to offer an explanation.

It also can be a good idea to show some empathy when saying no. Something like “I know you were really counting on me for this, so I’m even more sorry that I can’t do that for you.”

Harness the Power of Your Emotions -- WATER ... from HowToLiveOnPurpose.comWhat are the Benefits of Saying No?

  • Lower your stress level

Saying “yes” when you want to say “no” causes stress. As you know, it is not the lone cause of stress but it is one that can be easily avoided.

  • Eliminate toxic people

Saying “no” when you need to will help you get rid of some people in your life who may be taking advantage of you.

  • Save some time

By saying no to things that you should, you’ll have more time to do the things that you love to do. Everyone has the same amount of time. There are only 24 hours in a day, but you can control what you do with those hours. By saying no, you’ll be able to follow your heart and create your own priorities.

What techniques do you use to help you say no? Do you think getting more comfortable saying no could have a positive impact on your life?

Kevin Wilke "During the time I was using the Miracle Mindshift, out of nowhere significantly increased the money into my business while at the same significantly decreased the time I was working in my business.

So now, this is something that came out of nowhere because of this program.

And now... a new branding opportunity has opened and is going to be a great new income opportunity and a bigger business!"

Lynn Benjamin"Something so beautiful happens each day as I listen to the daily Miracle Mindshift. The best way I can describe the experience is simultaneously getting juiced up a vibrational level, or more, while getting settled right into, grounded into the center of my being.

Today, while listening to day 15, SEVERAL lights in the mansion turned on. A rapid download of aha's begin to make my heart feel different. I'm integrating now, and can say that I will now experience the four directions on a physical level, rather than having the four directions as just concepts. How part of the earth we are. I look forward to a deepening of this physical connection with the four directions.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, I'm so grateful!"

- Lynn Benjamin

StacyQuinn"I went through the day 11 content, and I was hearing the same critical chatter in my mind. I realized how these rules, this previous programming was resisting my affirmations.

When I did my verbal affirmations, the chatter in my head was actually "talking" over my verbal affirmations. I was inches away from a mirror, looking directly in my own eyes, saying my affirmations and the voice in my head said:
"How could a gift to the world be so ugly?"

I was surprised by my own reaction. I started laughing. I mean belly laughing. I'm still laughing as I write this.

I don't know who that dude was but he's very rude and he's not my friend. I now know what he sounds like and how he talks.

I wanted to send this email to thank you. Because I'm not listening to that jerk anymore."

- Stacy Quinn

Monica_Leccese"I completed my first "Mindshift" after having battled the cacophony of voices and Master Trickster that seem to come along with changing thought patterns. I devoted a portion of each day to the practice, although not the same time each day: to the imaging, writing, and speaking of my declarations and affirmations. I recorded each "Gift" that I received and was sure to be grateful for each one, every day. By the end of the month my declarations were manifesting although not in an "overwhelming" manner. Still...at the end...I was so very grateful. I decided to commence another "shift" ...   I would create a circle, image my declarations, state them...but on a lesser scale than a full practice. After that decision I started to create a circle where I would light a flame to each direction. .......and that's when it happened......I shifted. I can only describe the feeling as the most amazing I have ever experienced: time, the world, my perspective...stopped; the energy rushing through me was so empowering it was nearly overwhelming. I had never before felt so alive, so en pointe in the moment, so...on...purpose. I had rubbed the magic lantern and the genie has held my hand ever since. I have been getting EVERYTHING I have been asking for, to the EXACT degree I have asked. Remember...you get what you ask for."
