How to Make It Easier for Readers to Buy Your Book Using #AmazonCart

Book marketing is something many authors dread, so… Wouldn’t it be great if someone could see a tweet about your book and add it to their Amazon shopping cart, all without leaving Twitter? Now they can, thanks to #AmazonCart Imagine how many more customers you can get when you make it so easy for folks to buy.

Here’s an example of #AmazonCart in action

This is the tweet that auto-populated when I went to 1 of my books on Amazon:

Instant Author Formula: 6 Simple Recipe… Reply w/ #AmazonCart for a free sample http://t.co/cZZEnp6zwr via @amazon — Ronda D – Author (@TheStoryLady) June 4, 2014

Help drive sales on Amazon using Twitter with #AmazonCart

We would like to inform you of a new feature – #AmazonCart – that could help grow your sales when you tweet about your books on Twitter.

Customers can add products they see on Twitter to their Amazon.com Shopping Carts without leaving Twitter.

Now, when you send a tweet that includes an Amazon.com product link, Twitter users who have connected their accounts to Amazon will be able to add the product directly to their Amazon.com Shopping Carts simply by replying to the tweet and adding “#AmazonCart.” They will receive a reply tweet and an email confirming the Cart add, and they can complete checkout on Amazon.com at their convenience.

You may begin to see replies containing “#AmazonCart” to your tweets with Amazon.com product links. These replies can also give you a good idea of which followers are engaging with your tweets.

For more information about the feature, visit www.amazon.com/AmazonCart.

To learn about how you can leverage #AmazonCart to drive your next book launch or promotion, reach out to amazoncart-partnerships@amazon.com

.

What does this mean to the reader/customer??

If you hadn’t noticed, it can be a pain to use Amazon from your smartphone when you’re inside another app, like Twitter. Now, your reader doesn’t have to remember your title, log in to their Amazon account, or switch apps. Easy-breezy.

What #AmazonCart means for YOU the author

You’re the hero for making things easy for our buyer. You can get more sales.

How to link your Twitter account to Amazon:

You can lick this link to edit your Amazon Social Settings. So, go ye forth and share your Amazon book links on Twitter using #AmazonCart.

Tips for writing tweets about your books

#1 Write your own tweet that speaks to the value of the book in someone’s life. I copied the 1 right from amazon, and it isn’t great, but it offers the free sample, which isn’t too bad. A better idea is to write my own tweet, which I have done.

A Tasty Morsel quirky #paranormal #novella full of humor & innuendo. Reply w/ #AmazonCart to buy http://t.co/iX1IJkJWR2 — Ronda D – Author (@TheStoryLady) June 4, 2014

#2. Rather than using that long Amazon link, make a short link.. Here’s how:

Take the long # at the end of your Amazon link right after the /dp/. Eample: http://www.amazon.com/Tasty-Morsel-Quirky-Paranormal-ebook/dp/B00BVG5Q4M Put it at the end of http://amzn.com, like this: http://amzn.com/B00BVG5Q4M Remember to tell people to reply to buy or for Kindle books, you can tell them to get a free sample.

It’s as simple as that! I wish you successful book marketing. Follow your B.L.I.S.S.! Should I Enroll My Book in Kindle Countdown Deals?

Send to Kindle

Tell your friends!

Should I Enroll My Book in Kindle Countdown Deals?

As with almost any question, the answer to that is my favorite… “it depends.

Amazon Kindle Countdown Deals is a promotional tool in the KDP Select Program that lets you as a self published author put your book on sale for a limited time and keep increasing the price.

Books between $2.99 and $24.99 are eligible. Your book must be enrolled in KDP Select, which means you’re giving an exclusive to Amazon for 90 days at a time.

Example: My book Instant Author Formula gives you 6 easy ways to write a book fast. It’s $4.99. It will be available as a Countdown Deal in March for a week.

The price will be only 99 cents at first, then 1.99, then 2.99, then 3.99, then after the week is over, back to full price.

This is a great way to get new readers.

Here are the details straight from Amazon. See the original article source here.

What is Kindle Countdown Deals?

Kindle Countdown Deals is a new KDP Select benefit that allows publishers to run limited-time promotions on their books, which can help earn more royalties and reach more readers. Customers can see the regular price and the promotional price on the book’s detail page, as well as a countdown clock telling them how much time is left at the promotional price.

Here are some of the benefits of Kindle Countdown Deals:

• Time: You control how long your book is discounted, anywhere between one hour and seven days.
• Discount: You set the level of discount, which must be at least $1 off the regular price.
• Royalty : You will earn royalties based on your regular royalty rate and the promotional price. As a result, if you are using the 70% royalty option, you’ll earn 70% even if the promotional price is below $2.99.
• Reporting: A new KDP report displays sales and royalties at each promotional price side-by-side with pre-promotion performance, so it’s easy to compare.
• Customer experience: It’s easy for customers to see the great deal they’re getting, as the regular price is included on the book’s detail page, right beside the promotional price. Customers will see a countdown clock with the time remaining for the promotion. It’s also easy for customers to discover Kindle Countdown Deals on a dedicated webpage at www.amazon.com/kindlecountdowndeals

Here’s a short video about the program:

Awakened Author Premium Members gained insight into this program during a recent Premium Member call. If you’re a premium Member now, just login and notice the link to this specific class below.

Begin your 7 Day Free Trial NOW!

If you are not yet a Premium Member, you can join for 7 days free right now. You’ll be able to hear the KDP Select class right away and join the next live call. Begin your 7 day free trial now!

Fair Warning:

Book promotion is important for all authors no matter how you publish. Books don’t promote themselves, and publishers don’t lift a finger for you even if you are published by a big house.

There is no quick fix. Just having a Countdown Deal for your book is not a lazy button. You still need to spread the word and find those readers who will devour your book and come back for more.

One of the topics in the class was about using events in Facebook and Google+ to let your people know about the special promotion.

Also during the call, I help Premium Members think through whether this is something you want to do. The why and the thought behind the decision is much more important than the how-to of doing it.

I hope you’ll join the premium Program!

Follow your B.L.I.S.S.!

Amazon Book Marketing Tip: Wondering How to Get Customer Reviews on Your Book Ethically?

Amazon Book Marketing Tip: Wondering How to Get Customer Reviews on Your Book Ethically?

“There are no customer reviews yet.”

Does that tantalize you to buy? No.

The loneliest moment of promoting a new book comes immediately after it goes live on Amazon. There are no reviews except whatever you might have gained in advance and included in the book’s description.

Every author (myself included) is desperate for more reviews – hopefully 5-star, but…

Have you ever tried getting people to review your book on Amazon? Gettingcustomers to review your book is as hard as getting the sun to stop shining!

Getting a person to say how much they gained from a book seems simple enough, yet even if you give your book away for a special promotion, most people won’t be kind enough to go back and write a review.

I just finished reading a mostly awesome book called How to Make a Killing on Kindle.

FABULOUS book in so many ways.  I wrote a review of How to Make a Killing on Amazon.

Knowing how tough it is to get reviews, I can understand why the author suggests paying for reviews and creating fake Amazon profiles so you can post reviews. However I believe these to be unethical tactics that I wouldn’t personally use.

He suggests that having 6 reviews as quickly as possible provides the social proof that will help drive sales.

Why 6? Because 3 full reviews go into the larger left-hand column and at least 3 shortened reviews go on the right along with a link to read all reviews.

But how to get customer reviews from real customers without compromising your ethics?

I got an idea from Chapte 11  Michael Alvear‘s book, even though the information he gave was not correct.

He said there is a page that Amazon puts at the end of  Kindle book that encourages the buyer to rate the book and share it. That doesn’t happen. Maybe it will, but it doesn’t. But don’t let that turn you off, because something else he shared is brilliant and gave me a kick-start.

He suggested adding a page at the back that says on the next page Amazon gives an opportunity to share. He then gives instructions like this:

If you found this book helpful, please share it with people you know who would benefit from it.

Even though AMAZON doesn’t give you a social sharing page, no reason you can’t make one of your own.

Here’s what I did.

  1. Made a back page with specific sharing instructions and a graphic. (I’ll share that in a moment).
  2. Made certain there is a clickable table of contents listing for sharing.
  3. Before the “back matter” (author bio, other products etc) put a line that reads: “Please remember to read the last page to see how you can share this book with people who would benefit from it. They’ll thank you for sharing.”
  4. Made the reader feel like a hero for sharing this book.

Simple enough. And you can do this in your print book as well as Kindle book.  Simply make a short link instead of that long ugly Amazon link.

Now you’re wondering,

What Should I Say on the Back Page of my Book?

Your reader is tuned into WIIFM – what’s in it for me?

Overcoming WIIFM  means positioning the request for sharing and reviews as something worthy of the reader’s time. So the question you should ask yourself isWhy would someone share this book?

  • Because they want to help their friends.
  • Because they want to feel good about themselves.
  • Because they want gratitude and appreciation for doing good.

So on that last page, make the reader feel like a hero for sharing this book with others who would benefit. “It might be exactly what your friend has been searching for” is one phrase I used in my first Sharing Page experiment.

One Challenge:

People do not pay attention!

During a webinar one time I was talking about writing reviews on competitive/complimentary books, and people couldn’t figure out where the review button is. Now, understand that I’m mostly blind and I have no trouble finding it.

People don’t look, don’t read, don’t listen and don’t pay attention. It’s just a fact, and I’m ot trying to be rude or insensitive.

Don’t fight me on this…you KNOW it’s true!

Too much going on. Too many distractions that the vast majority of people don’t turn off when they need to focus.

So then –

What’s the cure for lack-of-paying-attention?

Give specific instructions yes. And most important, give a picture!

Here’s an image on the sharing page for the book Activate Your Breakthrough:

This is easily done with with a free tool like Jing  (which is what I used) or your paint program that comes with your computer.

Dong this is the ethical method for how to get customer reviews.

So give specific instructions, let the reader feel like a hero, and watch what happens to your social sharing and reviews.

Pinterest for Authors: What Are 3 Ways Authors Can Use Pinterest for Book Promotion?

Pinterest for Authors: What Are 3 Ways Authors Can Use Pinterest for Book Promotion?

As an author of fiction and/or nonfiction, Pinterest is a tool that will definitely boost your visibility and your book promotion efforts.

Pinterest Is a bit like Twitter for photos. It is the fastest growing social network around. Rather than sharing words, people share pictures on Pinterest.

Thanks to Caitlin Muir for your  article about Pinterest for Authors that inspired this post. Here is what Caitlin wrote. I add some thoughts afterward:

3 Ways Authors Can Use Pinterest Guilt Free

By Caitlin Muir In Platform Building Tips, Social Media Tips, Website Tips
3 Ways Authors Can Use Pinterest Guilt FreeI should probably confess this right now.

I’m smitten with Pinterest.

I avoided it for a few months but then I feel prey to the pinning site. If Twitter is public text messaging, think of Pinterest as a public personal pinboard.

After joining the site, I believe that every author should be on Pinterest. I’m not alone. Gini Dietrich wrote a compelling piece on three ways you can use Pinterest for business. Gini is a marketing genius who is highly respected in her field. Bloggers from every sphere are writing about the new opportunities Pinterest is providing.

Here’s why you as an author should be on Pinterest:

1. Inspiration

Book Inspiration

Are you working on a novel? Are you populating a world? Get inspired.

Find the house that your main character lives in and put it on a  board. That’s what I do on my Book|Places board. There are something about the pictures on the board that speak to me.  I know that a scene from one of my stories will fit into those pictures.

How do you populate your worlds? Where do you get your inspiration?

2. Directing Traffic

Traffic Directing Pinterest Board

My friend Ashley writes Domestic Imperfection, a DIY blog. She regularly shares photos from her blog to Pinterest.  Her design photos get repinned hundreds of time. Every time that happens, her blog is introduced to a new set of people. By using Google Analytics, Ashley has been able to track where her viewers come from. A large chunk of her viewers come from Pinterest. So she keeps using the site. It’s a great strategy that is paying off.

How can you use Pinterest to direct traffic to your site?

3. Sharing Character Details

Horse Lover Pinterest Board

Nicole is an author who writes historical novels that feature horses. By having a board dedicated to the horses that populate her books, she’s giving readers the opportunity to connect with her stories in a deeper way. She also wrote a great blog post on why authors should use Pinterest.

What if you created a board for your main character? What makes them unique? Put it on a board and share it with your readers.

There’s a Board For Everyone

Populate the world you are creating. Collect character pieces from all over the internet and share them in one place. Post your board to Facebook. Let your readers visualize your world and encourage them to get creative and build their own fan boards. Then encourage them to share those boards on your fan page.

What kind of boards do you create? Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Author Media can help you create a social media strategy that will help you maximize your impact while minimizing your time. Ask us how.

Example of Pinterest for Authors

Here is a fabulous example of Pinterest for authors by my friend Velda Brotherton, who herself is a prolific author. repinned or shared. View her entry on Pinterest here.:

Source: thehawksbillcrag.com via Velda on Pinterest

(Note: Here is the text “behind” the picture that the auhort entered.)
In 1865, Union Army Captain Nelson Paintier returns under military orders to his boyhood home, bushwhacker ravaged southern Missouri. His orders are to pardon or kill the raiders riding there under the black flag of “Give No Quarter.”

Caught up in a bushwhacker chase, he must help them or lose the schoolteacher love of his life. She alone understands his guilt for causing the death of a fourteen year old slave girl years before. They ride a path that leads straight towards death on the cliff.

Here is another example of using Pinterest for authors:

One way to use Pinterest is to use a screenshot. That’s what I did to celebrate the success of my student Tim Bennett with his book Cracking the Entrepreneur Code. He published his book, and 5 days later, he was #1 in Hot New Releases on Amazon.

Success Story: 5 Days from Published to #1 Bestselling Author www.WriteOnPrpose.com

Here are 3 additional tips to keep in mind when using Pinterest for Authors:

1.Be educational and interesting not just pushy-promotional, as in the example photo that Velda Brotherton “repinned ” (shared) in the included example. And remember it’s ok to add a link or book title. In fact, it’s a good idea for you to do this!

2. Use Pinterest gently for book promotion but don’t ignore the opportunity. Mention the name of the book if you have it or your website. You can also say your book is available everywhere or available on Amazon.com.

3. Use Pinterest to share photos that will touch the hearts and minds of your ideal customer. Let the pictures tell a story for you and be sure people know how to purchase your book and got o your website. Make everything about the reader, not you.

Meteoric Rise of Pinterest

If you’re not using Pinterest, you WILL be left in the dust.

According to Gayle Falkenthal of the Washington Times Communities:, Pinterest  ” is the fastest growing social media website in Internet history. Yes, even faster than Facebook.”

According to Business Insider, traffic to Pinterest has increased by more than 40 times since December of 2011.

What Makes Self Publishing Books the Best Answer for the New Author?

If you’re thinking of writing a book – and I certainly hope you are! – you will want to consider your publishing and marketing options from the get-go.

A few days ago I told you about Geri, up to her eyeballs in her music school business. Geri had a book she wanted to write, but it just seemed like one of those things she would never have the time to do.

However, once she got clear on her priorities and made the decision to hire an assistant to handle the administrative end of her business, the book idea came off the back burner and assumed its rightful prominence in her life!!

Having no idea as to how to get a book out, Geri hadn’t given any thought to self publishing books. She naturally assumed that once her book was written she would submit it to publishers and get a publishing contract.

She was ecstatic when she found an agent who agreed to represent her book!

The agent expressed enthusiasm about her work. He had connections in the business, and assured her that he knew three publishers looking for a book like hers.

Delighted, she gave him an initial payment on a one-year contract.

Geri went back to her music school and immersed herself in her work, which now included researching marketing options and drawing up a schedule of presentations to parents’ groups and music school associations. She sent her finished proposal off to her agent.

Weeks passed. She wondered what was happening with her book. When she called her agent to inquire, he assured her that a contract was just around the corner.

Weeks turned into months, and still no publishing contract. “Don’t worry, these things take time,” her agent told her. “Acqusitions editors are overburdened with submissions. You have to be patient.”

(Read on – There is a major up-side to this story YOU will want to know about!)

The year wore on, and Geri completed her end of the payment agreement. Still no word from the publishers. Had her agent taken her for a ride? Or had he actually put an honest effort into representing her book? She had no idea.

She did see that two other books he was repping had hit the market. Why did hers have to be the one dying on the vine?

Finally, a week before the contract was set to expire, Geri got a call. A publisher was interested in her book! They had looked it over and wanted to talk to her.

Geri was thrilled.

Three weeks later she got a call from the acquisitions editor, who complemented her on her work. The release date would be a year and a half out – just a reality of the business, he said. She would retain North American rights and be awarded a $5,000 advance against a small royalty on sales.

“It’s a good deal for an unknown author,” her agent assured her. “If this book takes off, you’re set for life. They’ll want everything else you can produce.”

What she didn’t realize was that the publishing house would do little to market the book beyond putting it in bookstores, and that the burden of book promotion would therefore sit squarely on her shoulders.

Nor did she note that the bookstores would require a buy-back agreement for copies that didn’t sell, or that the cost of buy-backs would be deducted from future royalties.

(Stay with me … you’re almost to the magic moment!)

The most upsetting thing was that when her book finally came out, the publisher had changed the title … and it didn’t feel like her book at all.

She was in shock. She nearly gave up on her book.

AND THEN … When she least expected it …

Last year, she received a call from a music company. A marketing executive had come across a copy of her book, and he wanted to talk to her about featuring her music lessons in the company’s ads.

Re-energized, Geri decided to take another tack with her book.

Having heard about the recent rise in self publishing books, she realized that self-publishing would allow her to:

• PUBLISH the book the way SHE wanted it to appear

• CAPITALIZE on the connections she had already made

• POCKET all the proceeds from sales.

After negotiating a release with the publisher, she had the book’s cover redesigned and contracted for a small initial printing with a print-on-demand printer. Her music store would be the publisher!

Within three weeks she had corrected proofs of her book and received shipment of her first 100 copies!

She cut a contract with the company that had called her, and two weeks later she was back for a second printing of 5,000 books (drop-shipped to the destination address, so she never had to deal with them at all).

That was the beginning of a delightful experience in steering her own career as an author.

Since she decided to free herself from the constraints of working with an agent and a publishing house, Geri has blossomed as a writer and speaker and is making sizable waves in the music school world. And her income has skyrocketed.

*     *     *

So… What can YOU learn from Geri’s experience? And what do you need to know to take advantage of the digital publishing revolution?

;-) For most new authors, self-publishing is the best option, at least initially. Why?

• It shaves years off the process!

• It puts YOU squarely in the driver’s seat! (You WILL recognize your book when it’s done.)

• It puts all the profits in YOUR pocket!

;-) Your Self-Published Book will make YOU stand out in your market!

;-) Promoting your book is fun. You believe in your book, and all you have to do is build relationships with people and communicate to them WHY you believe in it … and how they are going to benefit from partnering with you.

;-) Once your book achieves a level of success in the marketplace, publishers are likely to notice and end up vying for the right to publish it. That puts you in the enviable position of being able to negotiate a very favorable contract.

So… Know that YOU CAN make a difference with your book! A much bigger difference than you can make without it. Start writing.

And be aware that the world of publishing is changing rapidly. Self publishing books has gained tremendous acceptance in recent years, and more and more is seen as the common sense way of getting a book printed and out to the public.

New opportunities for promotion and distribution of self-published books are making news all the time. Stay tuned to future posts for more details on this.

So now, this is something that came out of nowhere because of this program.

And now... a new branding opportunity has opened and is going to be a great new income opportunity and a bigger business!"

Lynn Benjamin"Something so beautiful happens each day as I listen to the daily Miracle Mindshift. The best way I can describe the experience is simultaneously getting juiced up a vibrational level, or more, while getting settled right into, grounded into the center of my being.

Today, while listening to day 15, SEVERAL lights in the mansion turned on. A rapid download of aha's begin to make my heart feel different. I'm integrating now, and can say that I will now experience the four directions on a physical level, rather than having the four directions as just concepts. How part of the earth we are. I look forward to a deepening of this physical connection with the four directions.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, I'm so grateful!"

StacyQuinn"I went through the day 11 content, and I was hearing the same critical chatter in my mind. I realized how these rules, this previous programming was resisting my affirmations.

When I did my verbal affirmations, the chatter in my head was actually "talking" over my verbal affirmations. I was inches away from a mirror, looking directly in my own eyes, saying my affirmations and the voice in my head said:
"How could a gift to the world be so ugly?"

I was surprised by my own reaction. I started laughing. I mean belly laughing. I'm still laughing as I write this.

I don't know who that dude was but he's very rude and he's not my friend. I now know what he sounds like and how he talks.

I wanted to send this email to thank you. Because I'm not listening to that jerk anymore."

Monica_Leccese"I completed my first "Mindshift" after having battled the cacophony of voices and Master Trickster that seem to come along with changing thought patterns. I devoted a portion of each day to the practice, although not the same time each day: to the imaging, writing, and speaking of my declarations and affirmations. I recorded each "Gift" that I received and was sure to be grateful for each one, every day. By the end of the month my declarations were manifesting although not in an "overwhelming" manner. Still...at the end...I was so very grateful. I decided to commence another "shift" ...   I would create a circle, image my declarations, state them...but on a lesser scale than a full practice. After that decision I started to create a circle where I would light a flame to each direction. .......and that's when it happened......I shifted. I can only describe the feeling as the most amazing I have ever experienced: time, the world, my perspective...stopped; the energy rushing through me was so empowering it was nearly overwhelming. I had never before felt so alive, so en pointe in the moment, so...on...purpose. I had rubbed the magic lantern and the genie has held my hand ever since. I have been getting EVERYTHING I have been asking for, to the EXACT degree I have asked. Remember...you get what you ask for."
