Do I Really Need Public Speaker Training to Take the Stage as a Speaker?
Once I met an author whom I’ll call Gustav. He was an expert with a message that could change the lives of a nation, but he had no known presence.
Now Gustav had worked with an editor to write his book. I fortunately got to him before publishing and asked him this question…
“What’s after the book?” This is such an important question for ANYONE who is writing or wants to write a book to answer.
“I’d like to do some speaking,” he told me.
He was someone with good technical skill in his niche and a good idea. But he did not have an online presence. He had a new website and a new book and that’s it.
“Have you been a speaker before?”
There are a number of tales to tell about Gustav, and one of them has to do with this important fact.
“If you want to get somewhere, you need a mode of transportation to get from here to there.” Ronda Del Boccio inspirational quotes on success.
If you want to go down the road, you either need shoes, a horse, a car, a bike, roller skates, a wheelchair, a segue — or perhaps a driver to get you there.
If you want to build income streams around your book (which I certainly hope you do!) then you either need the vehicle of the skills now to get you there, or you need to get help or training to get it accomplished.
How can you expect to be a speaker and have event organizers eager to you if you have just a book, no products, no coaching, no done-for-you services (or other back end) and no experience as a speaker?
Does that make y ou delicious to an event organizer? A newbie author-entrepreneur with no products, no back end, and no speaking experience wants to take your stage.
I don’t even think so!
Deciding to be a speaker as part or all of what you do around your book means you need some skills.
If you just have a book and “some speaking” you have a Grand Canyon sized hole in your business and sporadic profitability.
There’s also more to being a professional speaker than saying “I’m a speaker.”
- How will you get speaking leads?
- How will you keep in contact with your audience?
- What products or services will you offer beyond speaking, assuming you actually get speaking gigs?
- How will you make consistent revenue, since speaking gigs are often sporadic?
And the list goes on from there.
If you want to be a professional speaker, you need public speaker training.
And here is a chance to fill in all those puzzle pieces and hear from 24 of the top presenters in the world who can help you profit as a speaker.
How much would it help you to have answers to questions like these?
