Winter Arrives on the Greenhouse

[[[1]]]

Winter is Coming

We have been doing our best to get the roof on the greenhouse before the snow arrived. Cold weather and high winds have taken a toll on our ability to get it completed.

Just a couple of weeks ago, we did get the very west wall cemented into place. It took another week to get the last post for the drive in door cemented into place due to cold weather.

Last post on left cemented into place

Two weeks ago, we were able to cement the last upright post in place for the Greenhouse.

Cold weather, high winds and time restraints have appeared to be winning the battle in getting the roof on and complete before the first big snow.

We just could not get the last 2 rows of the roof pulled into place due to the wind. The temperature must be at least 50 degrees farenheit to set these 66 foot long panels into place. Too cold or too hot, and the tension will not be correct once it is completed.

Part of taking on a project of this size is keeping focused on the end result. We know that once the roof is completed, we can finish the sides, install the vents and get the water system and completed.

We have placed the top soil, compost, and Llama manure in the greenhouse already. We just got a “New to us” Troy Built horse rototiller to level the floor of the greenhouse also.

greenhouse-pics

A 2 Day “Heat Wave” makes it possible to finish the roof!

Just this last Sunday and Monday, we were blessed to have warm enough weather to pull the last 2 panels! Finally, the roof is on and the weather was up to the low 50’s. We have had a couple of small snow storms, but the snow is all gone.

Here is a couple of pictures of the completed roof for the greenhouse!!!

Last items to Finish the Greenhouse

Now we can get the floor level and finish the side windows and vents.

Here is what we have left to do:

  • Build and install the 8 vents in the side walls
  • Close the other sections of the walls to keep the greenhouse warm and growing
  • Change the well pump from 240vac to a Solar powered well pump
  • Finish the cover for the water reservoir tank
  • Install the drain gutter on the south end of the greenhouse to get water to flow away from the greenhouse as rain falls or snow melts
  • Install the roll up garage door in the driveway ramp
  • This may sound like a lot of work, but compared to where we started, it is a short list.

We were hoping to get this completed before the first big snow, however, it came. The great news is that the roof is on and there is lots to do inside under the roof!

Roy says it is cold!

We have completed the majority of the tasks needed to start growing. We are hoping to start planting in 2 weeks.

How is your farm or garden coming along? Can you grow in the winter?

We will continue to give you updates as we finish the greenhouse. Our hope is that winter will allow us to finish the tasks needed to finish soon.

Meeting Neighbors Auctions

Have you gone to a local farm or equipment auction lately? We were at my first auction on over 2 decades. An auction in a rural area is completely different than what I remembered during my younger days. We ended up meeting neighbors and saving money.

000 0007 300x225 Meeting Neighbors Auctions

When we arrived at the auction site, an open field beside the highway, this looked more like a carnival than an auction. Yes, there was lots of equipment, but there was also horse tack, Clothes, Case memorabilia, tools, generators, tools still in their packaging, grinders and so much more!

There was even a nice food vendor for those who needed to eat. Since we were 2 miles to the nearest town, leaving was not an option. We did not want to miss anything for our first auction in our new community.

000 0003 300x225 Meeting Neighbors Auctions

Equipment versus Animal Auctions

I went to animal auctions in high school as well as a farm manager. As a manager for a thoroughbred breeding farm, there was lots of hope and stress at the animal auctions. The entire years profit came from that one auction. Was my training and care good enough to bring in a fair value for the animals? Just like anything, it is supply and demand.

Equipment auctions were not something our family or neighbors went to. There were too many unknowns about the equipment and their condition. However, there is the hope of getting a great deal on a serviceable truck, tractor or other tool for the farm or business.

The Auction at Hartsel

The parking for the auction was in the field. When we walked past the barriers, we could see the well groomed rows of trucks, cars, trailers and more. The food venue was right by the portable outhouses. I do not know how many acres of equipment there was, but at least 20 by my guestimation.

000 0005 300x225 Meeting Neighbors Auctions

Let the Fun begin!

The Auctioneers started the auction right on time, and they had 2 auctioneers on 2 separate trailers. One for tack and western art, the other for tools, grills and “surprises”. A young boy was one of the auctioneers for the horse being auctioned off as well as the tack and artwork. He did a great job and even did some more auctioneering toward the end of the event.

This was truly a Family Event!

Arrived early to see the equipment

Small tools and food was abundant!

There was a Mobile Auctioneers booth

Lots of people looking for the “Right Item” for their needs. We met some great people.

People were friendly and openly sharing their lives and experiences with Auctions. While we were observing the process of how to bid properly, we met lots of new neighbors and made some friendships.

We needed a flatbed farm truck. Only two for sale. We decided to see if we could find a good price for a regular diesel powered truck and then change out the bed to a flat bed.

The Black Ford truck sold for only $2,500. It is very road worthy, good shape and a 7.0 Diesel engine. We missed the opportunity to bid on it by 2 seconds, literally. I learned to be better prepared. The Dodge was beat up, the engine had oil all over it. The Dodge sold for over $6,000. We could have purchased a nice flatbed for the Ford and had a great farm truck.

000 0012 300x225 Meeting Neighbors Auctions

There were some great deals on used as well as New Trailer! A very nice trailer donated to the local Fire Department sold for only $1,000. Flatbed and car haulers sold for less than I expected. Some items sold for more than what you could have purchased at the store, but you don’t get entertained at the store either.

The Auction was Truly a Great Day!

At the end of the auction, they had a raffle for those of us who stayed the entire time. They gave out a total of $200. There were 2 top prizes of $50. I won one of the $50 prizes!! That more than paid for the knee pads and tools I bought. I had to make sure my wife Heather got an anniversary present!

People living on farms tend to like to talk, usually the only ones that listen are the animals that they take care of. I know this from not seeing people for days. I end up talking to the Mountain Sheep, Crows, Mountain Bluebirds, Antelope and all of the other neighbors that fly, crawl, have 4 legs or tunnel underground.

I believe we are living an old Country song: “Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam and the Deer and the antelope play” What a great neighborhood we have!!!

To find out more about auctions and share your experiences, please share in the comment sections. We would love to answer questions, hear your stories and enjoy the time you remember about equipment and farm/ranch auctions.

Homesteading Today

Homesteading today has different challenges than in the 1800’s. However, technology has made it easy to get confused about what information to believe and still grow nutrient rich and Healthy food. Food that not only provides nutrition but also protects the Earth we live on.

sustainable living house 660x300 300x136 Homesteading Today

Back in the 1800′s the earliest settlers in America made their way from the bustling East to golden opportunities out West. The safest way for pioneers to navigate the tough terrain to the West was the wagon train. These wagon trains crisscrossed the Old West on trails — some of the most famous being: The Overland, Santa Fe, Chisholm and Oregon Trails.

Along the way they saw incredible beauty and observed two very surprising things — they never saw them coming.

FIRST: Passing wagons observed discarded old household goods along the trail.
SECOND: The trail they were traveling was littered with graves.

Starting in the East and heading West the pioneers were committed to seeking fame and fortune in a rush of enthusiasm — but they had no idea what that commitment would cost.

As for the belongings discarded along the way — it became clear to the pioneers that if they were to reach the next water hole they had better balance between their immediate needs and their eventual wants. If a bedroom set stood in the way — out it went, they let it go. If a piano was too heavy for the horses — out it went, they let it go. And if luggage was too cumbersome — you guessed it — out it went, they let it go! Better to discard those things that stood in the way of reaching the West than the alternative.

The alternative — those that hung on to their unnecessary paraphernalia for dear life more often than not were the occupants of the graves that littered the trails.

What to keep as a necessity was an important decision. To live or die depended upon their decision.

The pioneers that successfully made it to the West figured it out.

Those that clung to the past and all their unnecessary paraphernalia didn’t make it to the next water hole. They wore out their animals, themselves and family unable to cross the mountains.

Those that let go of the past and divested all the unnecessary paraphernalia were those who were ready to claim their new future.

The Farm 40 acres 012 300x169 Homesteading Today

As we are working on our new farm project at 8,600 feet of elevation here in Colorado, choosing what to bring and what to get rid of is important. Luckily for us, the house next to our farm had been empty for 6 months.

The owners built a new house and had moved. Building a business, a new home and raising 4 children with not time for themselves, the move has been great for the family that moved away. As the house sat empty, the need for cleaning and preparing for sale quickly led to a house in need of help.

We were able to make a deal to clean up the property as well as bring all of the Off-Grid systems up to good standing. This is a win-win for us as well as the home owner. But we did have to decide what steps to take first for a healthy environment.

The mice had been living in luxury. We evicted them and with dust masks, gloves and cleaning gear, once again made this house clean and sanitary for us and our family. Just like in the 1800’s there are challenges with water, food and heat and security.

Wild donkeys have a way of getting into everything. The solar power system needs to be maintained to provide power for the furnace, lights, hot water heater and the water well pump.

Wild Donkeys 300x168 Homesteading Today

Coyotes roam the fields looking for a meal, so small children and small pets need to be educated about their safety. Cougars live in the area, but one of the biggest challenges is the below zero temperatures with lots of wind.

Our clothing had to be upgraded to keep us warm while working outside. The batteries in the backhoe brought in at night to keep them from freezing and losing all of its charge. The free range cattle can go through a weak fence if the grass looks greener on the other side. The antelope either jump over the fence, or walk between the rails. The mountain sheep come and go and are great watch and enjoy their company.

The crows come and yell at us when a storm is on its way. They give us time to get inside before the clouds drop their liquid or frozen moisture on top of us. Once the house is livable, our next goal is to get the greenhouse completed so that we can start growing food year round.

The plan is flexible and dependent upon many things. So just like the pioneers of days gone by, we too are ready to change our plans to achieve success.

Here are 10 things that we have found to be helpful to keep our spirits high and goals in mind.

  1. Share our time and our expertise by helping others. Knowing your neighbors and being helpful in a very remote area increases your social life. It also can be the only person close by when you or they need some help.
  2. Learn new skills like first aid, read books about homesteading Grit, Mother Earth News, Cappers Farmer and other homesteading tips, tricks and survival skills.
  3. If you have internet, keep in contact with friends and family
  4. Learn to be a good electrician, mechanic and seamstress, it comes in handy.
  5. Waste less food. It will save you money and in the event you can not get supplies for a month or more, can save your life. You can have all of the money saved up you want, but if you are not prepared properly, you can’t eat money.
  6. Eat healthy food. I have to admit, we do like sugar. Living away from a city is great therapy for sugarholics. Our well water is clean and healthy. Our food is organic and nutrient rich. But if we make poor choices in our staple foods, our health will suffer also
  7. Keep your family close and invite friends and neighbors over once in a while for company. It is good for your health to laugh and share some great food.
  8. Keep your relationship with God strong. Our spiritual health is very important. Be willing and able to spend time with yourself. Calm your mind and listen to what is placed on your heart.
  9. Learn from the Mis-takes and share with others
  10. Wake up each day, knowing that today is a present. Enjoy it!

Profound Effects of Farming on Health

There has been proven profound effects of farming on health. Dr. Northern, Dr. Alexander Beddoe, and other experts have noted, it is easier to cure sick soils than it is to cure sick people. Did you know these very same people have stated that farming affects our health so profoundly that consuming quality crops will do more for your health than all of the health care practitioners combined?

I want to share with you an Article by Dr. Dwight Lundell, M.D. who speaks out on what really causes Heart disease. Here is his article in its entirety. I highly recommend that you read it! Here is the direct link if the link above does not take you there:

http://myscienceacademy.org/2012/08/19/world-renown-heart-surgeon-speaks-out-on-what-really-causes-heart-disease/

We physicians with all our training, knowledge and authority often acquire a rather large ego that tends to make it difficult to admit we are wrong. So, here it is. I freely admit to being wrong.. As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact.

Dr. Dwight Lundell M.D. 150x134 Profound Effects of Farming on Health

I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled “opinion makers.” Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.

The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.

It Is Not Working!

These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.

Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.

Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.

Inflammation is not complicated — it is quite simply your body’s natural defence to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body? Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.

The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream dietthat is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. Thisrepeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.

What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flourand all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.

Take a moment to visualize rubbing a stiff brush repeatedly over soft skin until it becomes quite red and nearly bleeding. you kept this up several times a day, every day for five years. If you could tolerate this painful brushing, you would have a bleeding, swollen infected area that became worse with each repeated injury. This is a good way to visualize the inflammatory process that could be going on in your body right now.

Regardless of where the inflammatory process occurs, externally or internally, it is the same. I have peered inside thousands upon thousands of arteries. A diseased artery looks as if someone took a brush and scrubbed repeatedly against its wall. Several times a day, every day, the foods we eat create small injuries compounding into more injuries, causing the body to respond continuously and appropriately with inflammation.

While we savor the tantalizing taste of a sweet roll, our bodies respond alarmingly as if a foreign invader arrived declaring war. Foods loaded with sugars and simple carbohydrates, or processed withomega-6 oils for long shelf life have been the mainstay of the American diet for six decades. These foods have been slowly poisoning everyone.

How does eating a simple sweet roll create a cascade of inflammation to make you sick?

Imagine spilling syrup on your keyboard and you have a visual of what occurs inside the cell. When we consume simple carbohydrates such as sugar, blood sugar rises rapidly. In response, your pancreas secretes insulin whose primary purpose is to drive sugar into each cell where it is stored for energy. If the cell is full and does not need glucose, it is rejected to avoid extra sugar gumming up the works.

When your full cells reject the extra glucose, blood sugar rises producing more insulin and the glucose converts to stored fat.

What does all this have to do with inflammation? Blood sugar is controlled in a very narrow range. Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall. This repeated injury to the blood vessel wall sets off inflammation. When you spike your blood sugar level several times a day, every day, it is exactly like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.

While you may not be able to see it, rest assured it is there. I saw it in over 5,000 surgical patients spanning 25 years who all shared one common denominator — inflammation in their arteries.

Let’s get back to the sweet roll. That innocent looking goody not only contains sugars, it is baked in one of many omega-6 oils such as soybean. Chips and fries are soaked in soybean oil; processed foods are manufactured with omega-6 oils for longer shelf life. While omega-6’s are essential -they are part of every cell membrane controlling what goes in and out of the cell – they must be in the correct balance with omega-3’s.

If the balance shifts by consuming excessive omega-6, the cell membrane produces chemicals called cytokines that directly cause inflammation.

Today’s mainstream American diet has produced an extreme imbalance of these two fats. The ratio of imbalance ranges from 15:1 to as high as 30:1 in favor of omega-6. That’s a tremendous amount of cytokines causing inflammation. In today’s food environment, a 3:1 ratio would be optimal and healthy.

To make matters worse, the excess weight you are carrying from eating these foods creates overloaded fat cells that pour out large quantities of pro-inflammatory chemicals that add to the injury caused by having high blood sugar. The process that began with a sweet roll turns into a vicious cycle over time that creates heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetesand finally, Alzheimer’s disease, as the inflammatory process continues unabated.

There is no escaping the fact that the more we consume prepared and processed foods, the more we trip the inflammation switch little by little each day. The human body cannot process, nor was it designed to consume, foods packed with sugars and soaked in omega-6 oils.

There is but one answer to quieting inflammation, and that is returning to foods closer to their natural state. To build muscle, eat more protein. Choose carbohydrates that are very complex such as colorful fruits and vegetables. Cut down on or eliminate inflammation- causing omega-6 fats like corn and soybean oil and the processed foods that are made from them.

One tablespoon of corn oil contains 7,280 mg of omega-6; soybean contains 6,940 mg. Instead, use olive oil or butter from grass-fed beef.

Animal fats contain less than 20% omega-6 and are much less likely to cause inflammation than the supposedly healthy oils labelled polyunsaturated. Forget the “science” that has been drummed into your head for decades. The science that saturated fat alone causes heart disease is non-existent. The science that saturated fat raises blood cholesterol is also very weak. Since we now know that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, the concern about saturated fat is even more absurd today.

The cholesterol theory led to the no-fat, low-fat recommendations that in turn created the very foods now causing an epidemic of inflammation. Mainstream medicine made a terrible mistake when it advised people to avoid saturated fat in favor of foods high in omega-6 fats. We now have an epidemic of arterial inflammation leading to heart disease and other silent killers.

What you can do is choose whole foods your grandmother served and not those your mom turned to as grocery store aisles filled with manufactured foods. By eliminating inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients from fresh unprocessed food, you will reverse years of damage in your arteries and throughout your body from consuming the typical American diet.

Dr. Dwight Lundell is the past Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Banner Heart Hospital , Mesa , AZ. His private practice, Cardiac Care Center was in Mesa, AZ. Recently Dr. Lundell left surgery to focus on the nutritional treatment of heart disease. He is the founder of Healthy Humans Foundation that promotes human health with a focus on helping large corporations promote wellness. He is also the author of

The Cure for Heart Disease and The Great Cholesterol Lie.

We have heard the “Hippocratic oath” before, but is it followed? It appears the Dr. Dwight Lundell is following his oath to do no harm. I have always remembered the saying: Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food, which is also attributed to Hipporcrates.

In my heart, which many of you know is re-growing due to that saying, Farmers should also take that oath. No chemicals that kill all living things to be used for food production. My thought, but if it kill the animals that feed on it, what does it do to us?

Thank you Dr. Lundell for your courage and your focus on nutritional treatment for heart disease!

Can You Get Organic Farming Benefits Without Having Money?

Organic Farming Benefits without money?

With no money, no land, no problem: Building a dream in Zambia

Jerry Kufuna Can You Get Organic Farming Benefits Without Having Money?

Building A Dream in Zambia

I want to introduce you to Jerry Kufuna who is building a dream in Zambia. He is a leader in Zambia, as well as one of our community members here at HIS Farm.org. Creating mini organic farms as well as larger scale farms, Jerry is well on his way to building his dream. Jerry Lives in Zambia, and has a Passion for Agriculture. Since we are all connected together, we wanted to share his story. But We will let Jerry Share his Passion and Purpose! Fr

Here is his story:

MINI FARMS DEVELOPMENT (Organic Farming)

After being a Pastor and doing community work among poor people for more than 25 years, I discovered that the best way to empower our people is through Agriculture.

We just have to go back to the land! And Organic Farming is the way to go…especially when we use locally available material.

I discovered that Africans know what they need to develop their economy .We need to give them the tools to do that. And one of the tools is information or education. Relevant information!! Something that works for Africa.

“I know of no pursuit in which more real service can be rendered to any country than by improving it`s agriculture”

GEORGE WASHINGTON – AMERICAN STATESMAN AND PRESIDENT (1732-1799)

My desire is to develop a Mini Farm Prototype, multiply that and spread it in all ten provinces of our nation and other nations through others. What I am doing is a launching pad or springboard to the rest of Africa.

DSCN0401 300x171 Can You Get Organic Farming Benefits Without Having Money?

We need to grow(develop) so that we can help many more of our people. We are still a small project with lots of potential to reach our nation and Africa.

In order to do that we need Partners.

The Government of Zambia recognizes our Project. We are helping them do a few projects like Tree Planting.

Recently I was given an Award from the President of the Republic of Zambia for Tree Planting and Environmental Protection.

I am at the moment developing a base from where we can reach the nation. It is a Demonstration farm plot, for the farmer.

Our farm is a place where the following is done on a smaller scale

We would like to develop all I mention below.

1.Research

Discovering new ways of doing the old things. Information, fresh ideas etc.

2.Production

Developing products from raw material. Manufacturing finished products. Promoting the cottage industry.

3.Outreach

Reaching out to farmers where they live, with resources, information etc. Providing extension services.

4.Consultancy

Helping people (farmers) interpret and fulfill their dreams. Providing market ,information, financing etc.

5.Training

Equipping the people for the task of rebuilding the nations through agriculture.

My dream is to prove to our people that agriculture is the way to go if we want a lot of things to change in Africa.

Agriculture will answer a lot of questions Africans are asking eg.Hunger,Unemployment,Lack of Capital,Forex etc

Our project does the following(on a small scale)

1.Food security:it provides food security.

2.Jobs:it creates employment for our people

3.Income:it gives us an income.

4.Raw material: it provides raw material for the cottage industry. Manufacturing industry.

5.Foreign exchange: it helps us develop foreign exchange to finance imports.

6.Purchasing power: it shall help develop purchasing power for the majority of our people.

7.Surplus capital: it gives us surplus capital to finance other areas of industry development etc.

At the moment we are using ten pieces of land that are 50×50 meters each. We need to grow(develop) that so that we can take the project to other places.

We also have other pieces of land……533 hectares in total. That will be for commercial farming so that they can support the project in the future.

Our people usually find it easier to imitate what they can see working. That is why the whole project is like one big classroom.

We have been working with a number of farmers in our area- promoting organic farming.

We raise goats, free-range chickens, vegetables, grain, herbs, spices and fruits.

All these are on a smaller-scale.

This year we are also planting about 20,000 tree seedlings for our tree-planting exercise in this town.

My dream is to see this project develop into something like a university. Teaching others through hands on experience and learning-centered methods, a place where people learn by doing. It will be like a Long-Distance/Open University facility for the Farmer.

In order to develop we need the following:

  • Electricity. We have no power on the plot.
  • Boreholes for water. Most of our farming is done during rainy season.
  • Drip Irrigation equipment
  • Roofing Sheets and timber to build Food Processing shelters
  • Greenhouse
  • Fencing for security. We need to protect the property…….fencing-off even our animals and chickens, etc
  • Goats. Our Goat population is only 8. We desire to grow our Goat project, so that we can give from it (like we do with Chickens).
  • Chickens. We need to develop our Chicken Bank. We give and sell from there.
  • Incubators. The ones we have are manual. We need automatic-turning Incubators.
  • Accommodation for students. That will be used to accommodate small numbers of students for short courses.
  • Classrooms and Administration Block
  • Accommodations for staff. We need to stay on the property.
  • Skilled man power. That could be volunteer or full-time.
  • Transport. Our car broke down more than two years ago.We need a van and a car.
  • Simple tools
  • Information

Our focus is to reach the young people as we reach the adults. Our concern is: What type of young people are we going to leave for this great continent?

We have already helped so many. Teaching all sorts of things: Food Production and Processing.

We also need to have this project self-sustaining after a few years.

We are dedicated to help others discover organic farming benefits, even on a budget. One way to do this economically is by using food4wealth growing system The link for you is www.hisfarm.org/food4weatlh and it is how we grow the small garden in a mobile home park.

By working together, we will be making a difference in the world by implementing organic farming practices.

We are going to start recommending more products that may help you create your farm. A portion of the net profits will go to Jerry’s Zambia project, as well as other projects that you share with our community members also!

If you want to contact Jerry Directly with some help, here is his email: jkufuna@yahoo.com. Or you can leave a comment with questions or offers of help for Zambia at the end of this post.

We are all connected together in this world. I am so excited to read Jerry’s story and look forward to seeing the Vision that God has given him come to fruition.

The Shocking Truth About Food Shortages

We have seen the news stories about food shortages.  The shocking truth about food shortages is even documented by the news.  Video footage of young children with bloated stomachs that are barely alive.   Mothers and fathers asking for help from whoever will listen and help.  Drought and famine seems to be growing in the news.

Drinkable water is quickly becoming more and more scarce.  Chemicals are added to our drinking water to “protect” end users from disease and bacteria.  Desalination technology is growing quickly as the need for more water continues to rise.  Without clean healthy water, our food quality diminishes also.

What is the shocking truth about food shortages?

truck in wasteland 630 The Shocking Truth About Food Shortages

In my opinion, there does not need to be any food shortages.  We have technology that can provide food even in the desert, using Hydroponics, Aeroponics and Aquaponics.  We can grow fodder for animals using hydroponics like Foddertech systems that can produce up to 6,000 pounds (3 tons) per day.

I want to share with you an article that was shared with me from Eat Drink Better.com.  On April 8, 2013 Jennifer Kaplan Shared the following report:

The article suggests that companies dealing in fertilizers/grains/trading, seeds/chemicals and farm equipment all stand to gain from the global food shortage.  And, it comes as no surprise that environmentally unpopular companies like Archer Daniels Midland, DuPont and Monsanto are on the list.

From valuestockguide.com:

The inflation in the food prices is set to continue globally. The demand is rising faster than the supply can keep pace and in 2007 and 2008 there were riots in 60 countries due to run up in the prices of corn, wheat and soybeans …

Agriculture has the potential to be one of the most promising investment themes for the coming decade (sorry Facebook investors!). Here are some of the selected stocks that you can use to play the agriculture theme.

The post goes on to accurately point to two factors causing rising food prices globally:

Increased demand from China.  valuestockguide.com asserts that financial opportunities exist as “established players jockey to lock in supplies of essential grains and position themselves as a supplier to China.” They site the recent bid from the Japanese trading house Marubeni to acquire the US based grains merchant Gavilon (a spinoff from Conagra Foods) as being an obvious way of getting a footing in the Chinese supply channel.

Diversion of agricultural resources to produce biofuels.  The articles suggests that global agriculture giants are investing, and diverting grain, for the Ethanol market.

The Great news is this:  We as readers to such magazines like Grit, Mother Earth News, Cappers and others who believe that we are the solution are growing, literally, in numbers.

We have seen that in this world, that there is truly no “Lack” of food or water.  There is a lack of knowledge on many peoples part, but not those of us who thrive on the lifestyle of growing our own food.  It does not stop there either.  Look at all of the innovations that are shared in each edition of Grit magazine.

We are growing our own food in extreme conditions here in Colorado.  We use the food4wealth growing system, because of the ease of growing smaller gardens and food plots.  Last year we grew enough food for ourselves and 2 other families.  Even though we were in the middle of a drought, our harvest was plentiful.

I am excited as the time to plant our garden outside is getting closer.  We have a new farm that is at 8,800 feet in elevation.  We just got the well tested.  It provides 6 gallons per minute.  The water test is not complete, but there are others that are living in the area.  They too grow their own food and live where city power or water is not available.  This is a going to be a great year!

The best news is this:  As we grow locally and grow healthy natural food or organic food, the food shortage myth can be eliminated.  Again, this is my opinion, but I do believe that you feel the same way.  Looking forward to hearing how you are living a life of Abundance!

Super bowl Commercial God Made a Farmer

The commercial: God Made a Farmer speaks of many things that a Farmer is and does.  A farmer grows food, works long hours and puts in more hours in the first 3 days of the week than most people do all week long.  And that includes if they work during the weekend.

Although it did not share the joy and excitement of getting up early in the morning, eager to see his friends and feed them.

I am talking about the horses, cows, goats, rabbits, chickens, sheep, and a list of other animals that the farmer takes care of and nurtures.  But do not forget the Dogs who accompany them or the cats that keep the barn and outbuildings free of rodents.  The wild birds that clean up the excess feed that spill or are left over from feeding.  Not even the field mice that help clean up bits and pieces as they scamper about and live their lives on the farm.

Thoroughbred breeding farm

When I managed a Thoroughbred breeding farm, I had this one horse named Oh My Gawd!beautiful horse Super bowl Commercial God Made a Farmer If I wasn’t up early enough for him, he would make sure that I got up.  His field was right next to my house.  As a matter of fact, it was close enough to him to kick dirt from the field and hit the side of my bedroom wall.

What a great way to wake up!

He would call out to me and then run around to make sure that I could hear him.

When I was up and outside, he would come over to the fence, say hello, get his morning greeting from me, then prance around waiting for his breakfast.  I loved every morning that I got up to such a greeting!

It is the times of pure joy and shared love with the animals that is one of the best rewards.  When I see an eagle or a hawk flying overhead looking for a meal, or an blue Heron standing in the pond leisurely eating their meal.

Work, Work, Work!

Yes, there is a lot of work to being a farmer.  Irrigation pipe for feed crops, mowing, health care for all of the animals and equipment maintenance. Buildings to take care of as well as relationships with other farmers, friends that love to visit because of the peace that comes from sitting on the front porch and seeing what God has made.

For me, every time I see a horse or other animals that are healthy and happy, I know that they are being taken care of by a Farmer.   One of the best compliments that I have ever been given, was by our local Veterinarian.  He introduced me to a new vet intern as “The Herdsman” of the ranch.  It was an honor to be called that by this Veterinarian, for he has seen the way I love and care for all of my animals.  Humans included.

What is it that gives you your enthusiasm and joy of being a farmer or caretaker?

Share your story, It frees your soul and brings joy and hope to others when they can understand what it is that drives our desire to help!

For me, it is the relationship with the animals, human and otherwise, that has taught me that yes, God has made us all.

I am always happy to be called a farmer.  It is a great compliment in my life to know that I am a caretaker.

Have a great day!  Remember, you do not need a sports event to create A Super Bowl!

Success Stories

Kevin Wilke "During the time I was using the Miracle Mindshift, out of nowhere significantly increased the money into my business while at the same significantly decreased the time I was working in my business.

So now, this is something that came out of nowhere because of this program.

And now... a new branding opportunity has opened and is going to be a great new income opportunity and a bigger business!"

Lynn Benjamin"Something so beautiful happens each day as I listen to the daily Miracle Mindshift. The best way I can describe the experience is simultaneously getting juiced up a vibrational level, or more, while getting settled right into, grounded into the center of my being.

Today, while listening to day 15, SEVERAL lights in the mansion turned on. A rapid download of aha's begin to make my heart feel different. I'm integrating now, and can say that I will now experience the four directions on a physical level, rather than having the four directions as just concepts. How part of the earth we are. I look forward to a deepening of this physical connection with the four directions.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, I'm so grateful!"

- Lynn Benjamin

StacyQuinn"I went through the day 11 content, and I was hearing the same critical chatter in my mind. I realized how these rules, this previous programming was resisting my affirmations.

When I did my verbal affirmations, the chatter in my head was actually "talking" over my verbal affirmations. I was inches away from a mirror, looking directly in my own eyes, saying my affirmations and the voice in my head said:
"How could a gift to the world be so ugly?"

I was surprised by my own reaction. I started laughing. I mean belly laughing. I'm still laughing as I write this.

I don't know who that dude was but he's very rude and he's not my friend. I now know what he sounds like and how he talks.

I wanted to send this email to thank you. Because I'm not listening to that jerk anymore."

- Stacy Quinn

Monica_Leccese"I completed my first "Mindshift" after having battled the cacophony of voices and Master Trickster that seem to come along with changing thought patterns. I devoted a portion of each day to the practice, although not the same time each day: to the imaging, writing, and speaking of my declarations and affirmations. I recorded each "Gift" that I received and was sure to be grateful for each one, every day. By the end of the month my declarations were manifesting although not in an "overwhelming" manner. Still...at the end...I was so very grateful. I decided to commence another "shift" ...   I would create a circle, image my declarations, state them...but on a lesser scale than a full practice. After that decision I started to create a circle where I would light a flame to each direction. .......and that's when it happened......I shifted. I can only describe the feeling as the most amazing I have ever experienced: time, the world, my perspective...stopped; the energy rushing through me was so empowering it was nearly overwhelming. I had never before felt so alive, so en pointe in the moment, so...on...purpose. I had rubbed the magic lantern and the genie has held my hand ever since. I have been getting EVERYTHING I have been asking for, to the EXACT degree I have asked. Remember...you get what you ask for."
