You need not make a long trip, or go to huge expense to offer your honor and respect to Niibish. If it is easy for you to go to a nearby stream, river, lake or seashore, go there. Or … simply fill a small basin with water from your tap.
If you have tobacco, offer some. Just a pinch of the dried leaves, gently held between your thumb and finger, then sifted gently over the water as you consider this beautiful natural element, is perfect.
If you have sage or sweet grass, you might light some, and waft the fragrant, cleansing smoke over the water.

If you have brought only your heart, mind and spirit to your honoring ceremony, that is enough. Simply rest in the presence of the water, perhaps touching your fingertip to its surface as you consider its gifts.
While you do, you might enjoy The Algonquin Water Song. The phonetic pronunciation of the simple, beautiful lyrics is included below the video. Perhaps you will be called to raise your voice in song … in praise … in prayer, for the Water.
